]]>Ingravalle describes his works, collected in a series titled Mindshots, as “universally understandable illustrations which deal with different aspects of our modern life.” They explore different but relatable subjects of social media, distractions, overworking, broken relationships, and more.
“The inspiration for each piece comes from my everyday life while working, talking, watching a movie, hanging out with friends, or getting bored in the waiting rooms. Some are socially critical, humorous, or just plain ridiculous,” the artist explains on his website.
Ingravalle’s illustrations have been exhibited in art galleries and featured in a number of publications. He also collaborated with a number of high-profile brands through his Maivisto Studio, including Adidas, Marvel, ESPN, National Geographic, and Peugeot.
Ingravalle also published a book titled 50 Mindshots, featuring 50 of his illustrations. If you can’t get a hold of this book, don’t worry; the artist also shares all of his works on social media. Continue scrolling to check out more of them below.

]]>This visual development and concept artist is based in Marseille, France, and his works of art are transporting his 240,000 Instagram followers to new worlds every day. Carmes’ inspiration comes from many different places, and they’re often science fiction-based, while still staying rooted in reality.
Even when he’s taking us to futuristic wastelands and depicting scenes that are straight out of this world, there’s still something incredibly raw and human about his work. He enjoys focusing on lone characters because they help him portray scale and proportion and convey the sense of nostalgia that his illustrations wouldn’t be the same without.
“I visualize the scene, in particular when I’m doing research on the subject, prior to working on the illustration. I want people who look at my work to imagine themselves in the setting. A lot of my inspiration comes from the cinema, from photography, and from other artists,” Carmes told Ariane Group.

]]>Based in Melbourne, Australia, McKellar found a way to combine her passions through her work as a graphic designer and illustrator. A lot of her projects feature naturalistic elements: elements like floral patterns and cartoon-like animals.
“I grew up watching Disney and more recently Studio Ghibli and reading picture books like Beatrix Potter stories,” shared McKellar in an interview with Pikaland
She then explained that these cultural references influence her chosen subjects and themes. These themes include “anthropomorphism (animals adopting human characteristics), humans with animal features and human interacting with animals.”
“I am very interested in the relationship and I very strongly believe animals should be given a voice,” she adds. “This is the reason I express these concepts in my work. It does make me smile looking at an illustration of a hare wearing a cable knit jumper or a gorgeous girl with a birds nest for hair!”
While most of her work requires a more functional approach (projects that include art direction, print, packaging, branding, and lettering), McKellar allows herself some room for experimentation with her personal projects. These projects might incorporate other mediums like embroidery, watercolors, and collage work.

]]>Using the Artificial Intelligence program Midjourney, Welsh creates illustrated baby versions of your favorite pop culture characters. This includes baby musicians like Eminem, baby superheroes like Spider-Man, and baby versions of Disney princesses.
These babies are the most adorable thing not only ever but also easily recognizable thanks to the features they share with their grown-up versions.
Welsh is one of the artists that fully embraced artificial intelligence programs as part of his creative process. He knows that some people don’t view it as art but believes the backlash against AI art is simply a product of people having “a lack of understanding of its use and how it works.”
“Every generation has a new set of tools that can replace older models. For instance, photography had backlash from landscape painters, and digital painting received backlash from photographers and traditional artists alike,” Welsh explained in a recent chat with Bored Panda.
Whether you are a fan of AI art or not, you will probably find Welsh’s baby pop culture characters irresistible. So check out more of them below.

]]>The German artist is co-founder of a creative studio named Sons of Ipanema, and he decided to branch out and explore new styles when he started his Instagram page @janillustrates. He tried to find his own style and settled on playing with colors, textures, and shapes while creating the introspective conception illustrations that he’s now known for. He focuses on vector illustration, and mostly uses Illustrator and Photoshop in his work.
Siemen’s illustrations often explore the place of small people in the big world, addressing specific issues such as the impact of technology and climate change. Even though these themes are prevalent in his work, he doesn’t see himself as an illustrator who’s solely focused on social criticism.
“Depending on which illustration you’re looking at, I’d rather call it irony or sarcasm or romanticism than social criticism. I would rather entertain than enlighten… Certainly not everyone understands my intentions and sometimes there are none or it is too obvious,” Siemen told Pop Web Designs.

From the first to the last day of October, the graphic designer, motion designer, 3D and frontend developer has drawn 31 adorable illustrations which she posted on her social media.
She is self-taught in illustration and concept art, and she works with digital media as well as traditional ones like watercolor. She enjoys working in teams and alone, and she loves, above all else, coming up with great creative ideas.

]]>But keeping a journal doesn’t necessarily mean putting pen to paper. For Pearada Unahalekhaka (Cheepsatayakorn), diary keeping means something else altogether. An avid traveler (at least when traveling is permitted), Unahalekhaka describes herself as “visual storyteller”—documenting the world around her with the aid of watercolors rather than words.
Born in Bangkok, Unahalekhaka has lived in New York City and Hong Kong, but her travels have taken her anywhere from San Francisco to Thailand. Her small watercolor paintings (Unahalekhaka carries a sketchbook with her at all times) offer snippets from those travels, which she then shares on Instagram. “Traveling is my way of life,” says Unahalekhaka. “It’s how I find inspiration, and my favorite way to capture the moment is to sketch.”
With an affinity to art and aesthetics in general, Unahalekhaka studied architecture as an undergraduate, and is also a graduate of Columbia University with Masters in Strategic Communications. “I discovered my true passions in strategy and illustration while living in New York City,” she notes. “I combine eight years of work experience in the branding and advertising industries with my study in architecture and my passion in illustration to implement design strategy and create designs that speak to the audience.”
Her favorite places to visit when she isn’t working? Big cities. “I love positive energy and inspirations I get from fast-paced cities,” says the illustrator. “I can’t really stay still.” Her visual stories might just inspire you to start a diary (visual or otherwise) yourself.

]]>Did you know that the types of animals found in Australia consist of 83% mammals, 89% reptiles, 90% fish and insects, and 93% amphibians? Using watercolors, colored pencils, and gouache, Stankovic documents Australian wildlife in vivid colors. But there’s a twist. Some of Stankovic’s animals aren’t discovered. Yet, at least.
A combination of real and surreal, his illustrated creatures are at times realistic while other times entirely imagined. His unique style makes it hard to distinguish between the two.
Describing his style as both subtle and bizarre, his work might remind you of vintage scientific illustrations that are colored in a pastel wash. “I grew up reading folk tales and fantasy stories, watching horror movies and TV shows, so I guess it all kind of fused inside my head and is a source of inspiration still,” Stankovic shared with Barrington Stoke.
But his work is also the result of his mindful observations of his natural environment. “The ‘detailedness’ is perhaps the result of hours spent looking at tiny insects and seashell forms and their patterns with a magnifying glass,” notes the illustrator.
And while we might not be traveling due to the pandemic restrictions, Stankovic’s illustrations transfer us into a whole other realm—part Australian, part imagined.

]]>We were recently reminded of the joys in fashion by Annie Naranian’s fashion illustrations. Though created digitally (using software like Illustrator, Photoshop, Procreate), Naranian’s illustrations have a hand-made, unfinished quality to them that’s well-intended. Through broad “brush strokes” and clashing patterns and prints, these illustrations highlight the carefree attitude that comes with a sense of confidence in self-expression. The overall attitude is playful, inspiring us to explore our wardrobe.
Based in Toronto, Canada, Naranian’s illustrations have caught the attention of huge names in the fashion world, attracting clients like Chanel, Marc Jacobs, and Reebok.
Her work process relies on intuition, as much as anything else: “Before I begin illustrating, my technical process begins with collecting images from Instagram, Pinterest, various fashion magazines, and Vogue.com,” she relayed once in an interview with I Love Illustration.
“My interest in vintage fashion can be seen reflected in my art, because I think much of contemporary fashion is indebted to what has come before it,” she further explains. “And it is that very connection my art seeks to explore: the ways in which the methods of contemporary fashion are related to or are different from the techniques of the past.”
With a nod to the past (as well as the future), Naranian’s illustrations are very much contemporary.
