]]>Melissa uses clay to make tiny replicas of normal things you eat all the time, such as a salad from Olive Garden, a pizza pie, a bowl of Lucky Charms, an ice cream cone, and countless other things. The more you look through her large array of tiny items, the more impressive it gets.
Sometimes the best thing you can do to break through the noise is to find a niche for yourself that no one else does. That’s exactly what Melissa has done with her tiny clay food items, and her 34,000-plus followers are here every step of the way.
The best part about looking at her posts is when you look at the hand holding the clay figure, and realize that the hand looks enormous. This contrast is where it becomes clear how impressive Melissa’s work is, and why she’s a true professional in her field. If you consider yourself a fan of her work, give her a follow as well.

]]>In order to create the collection, Studio Ghibli teamed up with crafts-focused retailer Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten. The items from the collection were sourced from various artisans across Japan and will be made available in Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten stores. This includes treasure boxes, handkerchiefs, plates, T-shirts, dish towels, and more.
However, the highlight of the collection has to be handmade Totoro figurines. They are crafted from a piece of the camphor tree, the same kind of tree that Totoro calls his home in the movie. Each Totoro figurine was made by Tomoru Studio’s mast craftsman Takaaki Tanaka, who used the old Japanese technique Inami chokoku.
The Totoro handmade figurines come with a hefty price tag of $2,449. However, even if you are willing to spend this kind of money, there is no guarantee that you can own one. The figurines come as a limited edition item and will be sold via a lottery organized on Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten’s online shop.

]]>Maikki fell in love with ceramics art when she was just three years old while watching a children’s show where an artist sculpted animals using clay. She dreamt of a day when she could create something similar and her dream came true three decades later.
Maikki now specializes in making “tiny vessels of joy” and she’s honoring her inner child with each of her creations.
“I transfer a lot of my happy childhood memories and experiences into my work. It’s a mixture of pop-culture nostalgia from the late 80s to early 90s, spiced up with what I imagine in my dreams, feel or experience when I spend my time in nature,” the artist explains on her official website.
We’ve seen Maikki sculpt all sorts of adorable polymer clay sculptures, often inspired by nature and the animal world. Her Instagram page experienced a huge boom and attracted over 60,000 followers since she started making her signature ghosties, which present these spooky creatures in an adorable new light.

]]>With 2.9 followers and counting, Dinos and Comics is one of the most popular series of illustrations on Instagram. It was created by a writer James and an artist who goes by K. With this comic series, they tried to answer one simple question that’s been on everyone’s mind—what would dinosaurs say if they were human?
James and K created hundreds of comics over the years and explored many topics, but there’s one that struck a chord with their followers—mental health. The duo even published two books on this subject matter—Dinosaur Therapy and Dinosaur Philosophy—showing the dinosaur trying to make a sense of the world around them.
Unlike real dinosaurs, the characters in their comics aren’t doomed. Despite dealing with many ups and downs, they’re constantly trying to see the world in a more positive light.
“We think there’s hopeful comics already. They are mostly focused on friends and loved ones because as helpful as [meds] can be, we think the support of those around you is key to coping with mental health issues,” the duo told Bored Panda.

]]>Kopsombut is based in Nashville, TN and he fell in love with drawing comics while in high school. Life took him in a different direction during his college years, but he later decided to revisit his creative side and started drawing again as a way to cope with the bleakness and hopelessness of the modern world.
“I wanted to do something to remind people that there was still good in the world and to help them smile. I asked myself what I could do on a daily basis to bring joy to the world and I remember drawing comics in school and how it helped them smile,” he told Bored Panda.
His comics ooze positive energy, mostly because animals take center stage in most of them and make them extra adorable. In addition to becoming a huge hit on Instagram, with almost 200,000 followers, Kopsombutfoud found success with his book Everyday Smiles: Finding Joy in Every Moment.

]]>In Yosef’s works, Pikachu is a Supreme diehard who seemingly does some business on the side by trading crypto. SpongeBob Squarepants is reimagined as a pipe-smoking character dressed in a stylish Louis Vuitton suit, while DragonBall Z’s Vegeta poses dressed in Prada.
Yosef has been interested in digital art since a young age, starting to experiment with 3D software as a 13-year-old. Over the years, he honed his skills, got familiar with various new tools, and developed his own style.
His unique artworks not only got him recognition on social media but also prompted the famous Eden Gallery to sign him when he was 26. This made him their youngest signee and the first 3D artist to exhibit his work in the gallery.
“I’m not working on deadlines for my artworks, I don’t have any limits, and even if it will take years for each artwork, I’ll finish it only when I’ll feel that it’s perfect and my idea is clear,” he told Vogue magazine in a recent interview.

]]>Tanaka draws inspiration for his creations from multiple sources. Sometimes he recreates scenes from ordinary life, while other times, he reflects on current trends and events happening around the world. Recently, he did several miniature scenes to commemorate the ongoing Winter Olympics in Beijing, including staging an ice-skating race on a disposable face mask.
What makes Tanaka’s works even more impressive is the fact that he has been creating a new scene every day for more than a decade. He originally started sharing his creations on his website in early 2011 and made a point to himself to upload one new scene each day until he ran out of ideas. Impressively, that still hasn’t happened, and the talented artist still manages to keep the same creative pace without missing a beat. To date, he made more than 4,000 entries to his Miniature Calendar project.
“Everyday occurrences seen from a miniature perspective can bring us lots of fun thoughts,” Tanaka explains.

]]>The post Treat Your Kids to a Rob Hodgson’s Picture Book appeared first on 5dwallpaper.com.
]]>For young children, books, especially picture books, open a window to other, greater worlds (including imaginary ones). If you’re looking for an original gift this holiday season, we recommend looking into Rob Hodgson’s picture book.
Based in Bristol, England, Hodgson is the author and illustrator of The Woods and The Cave, and the illustrator of An A to Z of Monsters and Magical Beings, Tattoo Time! Monster Activity, A Good Day for a Hat and Tony T-Rex’s Family Album. His books have been translated into a dozen languages and his first author/illustrated book, The Cave, was chosen by Book Trust to be given free to every reception aged child in England. So you know he’s got our seal of approval.
But according to Hodgson, he got into children’s books by mere chance. Having worked as an illustrator for years, it was only after working on a commission to illustrate someone else’s book that he fell in love with the process. “I was sent a huge (like, comedically huge) sack of kids’ book from an agent, who said he thought I’d be good at working on books,” he recalled what later happened in an interview with Deborah Kalb. “I’d never considered it before, and his gesture gave me the permission to think I could do it.”
When it comes to the creative process, Hodgson tends to stick to the same formula. “I always tend to start with the images. Usually I’ll sketch the characters in some early form, then start putting them in scenes, and then I start writing from there,” he explains. “Once there is something to jump off from, then I write and draw at the same time. Well, not exactly the same time. But you know what I mean!”
With Christmas just around the bend, you’d want to look into his work.

“Halloween is my favorite event of the year, and the moment we found out we were having twins (a boy and a girl), I immediately started thinking about family Halloween costumes,” he shared on Bored Panda. “I always want to make Adelaide the main character since she is the girl of the house, so every year, we make our own creative costumes around a strong female lead.”
He also explained that when the costumes are ready, the next step is to take cute photos, edit them, and share them on Instagram.
