Mai Darling Designs’ Clay Ghosties Put an Adorable Twist on These Spooky Creatures

Artists, writers, and filmmakers usually present ghosts as scary creatures, but there’s beauty to be found in them if you’re brave enough to dig deeper. Maikki of Mai Darling Designs certainly is and her adorable ghost sculptures will change the way you look at these spooky creatures.

Maikki fell in love with ceramics art when she was just three years old while watching a children’s show where an artist sculpted animals using clay. She dreamt of a day when she could create something similar and her dream came true three decades later.

Maikki now specializes in making “tiny vessels of joy” and she’s honoring her inner child with each of her creations.

“I transfer a lot of my happy childhood memories and experiences into my work. It’s a mixture of pop-culture nostalgia from the late 80s to early 90s, spiced up with what I imagine in my dreams, feel or experience when I spend my time in nature,” the artist explains on her official website.

We’ve seen Maikki sculpt all sorts of adorable polymer clay sculptures, often inspired by nature and the animal world. Her Instagram page experienced a huge boom and attracted over 60,000 followers since she started making her signature ghosties, which present these spooky creatures in an adorable new light.
