]]>Through posting his words on Twitter and later on Instagram, Holmes learned the power of less is more. More specifically he taught himself to “say less but make a point using 140 characters” (as he later shared in an interview with The New Yorker).
“Your account should be growing, you should also be growing,” Holmes told The New Yorker. “Evolving is the point,” he stressed. Holmes puts his money where his mouth is. With over two million (!) fans on Instagram alone, his practice (and words) are worth following.
His words, more often than not, are aimed at women, with an unapologetically feminist tone to his poetry. “My words are what I would say to my sister, my mother, or the women I want to protect,” he explains. “Even after being hurt by a woman in the past, I understood where it came from and why she was the way she was as soon as I met her father, the man who had broken her heart long before she’d even known me.”
His words—blunt, beautiful, and inspiring—will bring some light to your life and more importantly—your feed.

]]>According to Holliday, her messages are aimed at other women, encouraging them to tap into what she calls their “God-given gifts.” And with an impressive following on Instagram, women (and men), are clearly tapping in.
“From a young age, I would sketch comic strips and draw people,” recalled Holliday in an interview with Freelance Wisdom, describing her creative upbringing. “I never took it too seriously until after I finished college with a degree in marketing,” she notes. “I decided that I wasn’t really doing what I loved to do, and then after the birth of my first child, I got an insane passion to go for what I always dreamed of.”
Art started taking root again in her heart, and Holliday listened. “I started sketching illustrations and sharing them online,” she says. “At a really wild time, I was pregnant with my second child, I decided to take the leap to freelance and it’s been a thrilling, fulfilling, and adventurous ride,” she adds.

]]>“People are always saying how vulnerable I am, and I think, Am I?” he reflected in an interview with The Great Discontent. “The truth is, a lot of us are really vulnerable. In real-life conversations, or in a 2 am tweet. I don’t think I’m any more honest or vulnerable than anyone else,” he admits.
“Knowing that life is difficult and that you can’t control things, allows you to make informed, but also really open-ended, choices,” he went on to say. “The phrase ‘things are what you make of them,’ comes up in my work all of the time, because it’s literally my guiding voice; both in my personal and professional life. It’s helped keep me going, but I think it’s also helped keep me safe.”
With his work being honest and accessible, it’s understandable why Kurtz gained such a massive following on Instagram. His illustrations and designs have also been featured in esteemed publications like the New Yorker, VICE, Adweek, and his books have been translated into over a dozen languages.
In other words: you should definitely join the club.

]]>Since launching The Happy News, Coxhead has turned into somewhat of a celebrity, appearing on BBC, and HuffPost, amongst other more traditional publications. Aside from her website, she also runs a buzzing Instagram page (with more than 130k fans to date), as well as a line of merch that includes a range of merry. greeting cards. And if that’s not enough, she’s also published a book titles Make Someone Happy with Penguin Random House.
“The fact that I can do what makes me happy for a living whilst also making others happy surely has to be the best thing ever!” she exclaimed in an interview with Virgin. “But also cups of tea, biscuits, and sunsets make me happy.”
Working from her rainbow-filled office, her goal is simple but poignant: make other people happy. “Without really realizing I started on my little happy mission,” she admits. “I thought if I could make a few people’s worlds a little happier then that’s what I would do until I figured out what I was going to do for a ‘proper’ job. I set up a Kickstarter to fund the first issue of The Happy Newspaper, a newspaper to celebrate all the good stuff going on in the world.”
But of course, that was only the beginning. Follow her social media pages for a bit of sunshine:

]]>“I’d like to think that my sentimental nature and sense of humor come across in my work so hopefully they are representative of those elements of my personality,” said Swift in an interview with The Smuggler. “When I was very little I wanted to be a hot dog lady,” she admitted. “Then I wanted to be a journalist. Then a lingerie designer. I hadn’t even considered illustration as an option until I was almost 20 and when I was 23 that I went back to study illustration.”
Her meandering journey landed her where she is today. But when it comes to the work itself, it’s pretty straight forward, beginning, like always, with a piece of paper. “All of my work starts out as a rough idea in a sketchbook or on a loose sheet of paper,” she explained her creative process. “Scribbled roughs are usually followed by some internet research for image references from which I begin to make pencil drawings. When I am happy with those I reproduce a final version of the drawing in black fineliner and scan the images into Photoshop to color, edit and compose my finished artwork.”

“I am interested in exploring the intricacies of human connection, and I use my work to unearth the small yet vibrant stories found in everyday life,” wrote Patel on her website. ”Like you, I have many worlds inside of me. I am sensitive but tough. I am pragmatic but free. I am a dreamer. I hope my work will always serve as a simple reminder: you are not alone.”
“What you can control lies within yourself: your thoughts and attitudes, your wishes and desires, and the perspective you choose to live by,” she added in a later interview with Freelance Wisdom. “We often blame our fear for keeping us from moving forward, but it’s our perspective of fear that truly holds power—it can imbibe us with strength and courage, or it can slowly destroy us.”
According to her, “if you believe that everything that happens to you holds a lesson, you’ll be better equipped to find the lesson and learn from it. If you believe that there is purpose and meaning in difficult, you’ll find beauty in the obstacles you face.”
