Coronavirus lockdown has completely changed our lives, but it also gave us the opportunity and time to discover new hobbies and get in touch with our creative side. Devoney Scarfe from Auckland, New Zealand used this lockdown to become a food artist.

Scarfe is a mother of two boys and a part-time graphic designer, and like most of us, she felt very bored when we first went into lockdown in March. Luckily, the talented woman found an awesome way to deal with boredom and anxiety—she mastered the art of baking.

For Scarfe, this was a natural turn of events because she loves creating and making things, and she also needed to feed her family while they’re all at home. That’s how she got into baking pies. Now her masterpieces look so awesome and incredibly detailed that it’s pretty hard to believe she’s been doing this for only a few months.

“My pies are mostly inspired by my family, my moods, and internet culture. They are a mix of social commentary and sweet delights,” Scarfe told Bored Panda.

Macaroons are known for their super fun and scrumptious colors, but the Swiss baker, Kim-Delia Keller, takes this dessert to a whole new whimsical level! While some of them might seem a bit dark and twisty, others are incredibly vibrant and cheerful. But the most fascinating part is that she’s gone from zero to hero with her baking skills in less than two years!

Kim-Delia Keller started baking cakes at her home in Switzerland back in January 2019. She is already known for making visually elegant cakes, but the amount of intricate details she’s put into her new project of animated macaroons has truly taken the Internet by storm! So where exactly does all this inspiration to create all these edgy and creative little macaroons come from?

While she started out baking cakes for fun, she found herself truly challenged when it came to the art of macaroons – both the taste and the aesthetics. In fact, everything all started when she was trying to make a batch of macaroons and they all started to crack. Rather than get frustrated with a “failed attempt”, she decided to use broken desserts and make some art with it. “I get my inspiration from daily life. I don’t search for it… I only bake stuff when I have an idea, and time and energy to realize it,” Keller shared with Vice. How inspiring!

Keller was one of those tenacious people who used her time in quarantine to enhance her skills in the kitchen, as well as, express her perspective through art. Chef Loria Stern has made quite the name for herself. With almost 150k followers on Instagram, and features in publications like Vogue Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, and Goop, her signature flower pressed shortbread cookies have taken the world by storm.

Her cookies are made by hand and are pressed with flowers and herbs seasonally available. Every cookie is different and pressed with individual botanicals, making the final product as unique as it is eye-popping. “On a busy week, we bake over 2,000 cookies,” said Stern in an interview with Voyage LA. “I’m most proud that I get to do what I love most for work– and that is feed people.”

Her journey to becoming the star chef she is today began in Ojai, CA where she was in charge of growing cherry tomatoes in her family’s garden and selling them at the end of our driveway. “Since those tender days, my journey has meandered from playing professional tennis to working in the fashion industry and then to finding my greatest expression in the culinary world,” she recalled.

Nowadays she’s hard at work, planning creative menus and cooking delicious meals for any occasion – from private events to meal deliveries to special occasion cakes. She also teaches cooking classes, dedicated to her flower pressed cookies, where she passes on her tips and tricks.

But for now, admire her mouthwatering creations from afar.

This project was made for the presentation of new chocolate Ruby. The idea was to create a set of elements (cakes) that together would form a single composition. As a result, we got algorithmically modeled cake that consisted of 81 individual cakes, every single was unique in shape. This composition was made using a graphical algorithm editor Grasshopper that can build forms from the simple to the awe-inspiring. Inspyred by Matthew Shlian we took a pyramid and changed the tilt of each object and the area of each top plane, programming and scripting the set of cakes. All of the cakes are different. . Этот проект был сделан специально для презентации нового шоколада Ruby от Cacao Barry в Шанхае. Идея заключалась в том, чтобы создать множество элементов (пирожных), которые вместе будут формировать единую композицию. В итоге мы получили динамический рисунок который состоит из 81 пирожного, каждое из которых уникально по форме. I don't know why Matthew Shlian decided to make a scandal out of this work. His works were inspiration for me and I honestly wrote about it and added his credits. It's an artistic influence which I gladly admit. I thought he would have been proud to be inspiration to another artist, like any accomplished artist. I saw his works before but I didn't see all his works and it is impossible to see all works all artists all over the world. The pyramids and attractor is nothing new. If you try to study Rhino3D you will find a lot of the same samples there. Also this mould was never made for selling it was just a concept project.

Land Rover 70th Anniversary cake. We were discussing the project and how we could get it realized for about a month. Then it took a week to create this project Stages: 1- we made a 3D model on the computer, 2- we prepared drawings for cutting chocolate cars out of chocolate plates, 3- I made plates of tempered chocolate (they were of different color), 4- we cut chocolate cars, 5- we put all the cars together, 6- I made the cake, 7- the last stage – photo shooting (we devoted a lot of time to it). Of course, the most important part is the cake itself. I was working on its recipe individually. I wanted to create a cake that would meet modern trends. It’s a cherry cheesecake with Sakura tea. The crunchy layer is made of caramelized pecans and dried cherries; almond sponge with lemon zest; berry confit ; berry cremeux; the last layer is cheese mousse. This cake doesn’t contain cream and is very low in fat and sugar. . Торт на юбилей компании Land Rover специально для журнала ONELIFE Land Rover @landrover. Origami cake for @sogoodmag Inspired by the beauty of lines and patterns of origami folds, I created a few models using 3Ds max and printed them on a 3D printer. The first fold that I tried to make was the Miura-ori fold. And inside is delicious cake, one of my favorites. Chef Loria Stern has made quite the name for herself. With almost 150k followers on Instagram, and features in publications like Vogue Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, and Goop, her signature flower pressed shortbread cookies have taken the world by storm.

Her cookies are made by hand and are pressed with flowers and herbs seasonally available. Every cookie is different and pressed with individual botanicals, making the final product as unique as it is eye-popping. “On a busy week, we bake over 2,000 cookies,” said Stern in an interview with Voyage LA. “I’m most proud that I get to do what I love most for work– and that is feed people.”

Her journey to becoming the star chef she is today began in Ojai, CA where she was in charge of growing cherry tomatoes in her family’s garden and selling them at the end of our driveway. “Since those tender days, my journey has meandered from playing professional tennis to working in the fashion industry and then to finding my greatest expression in the culinary world,” she recalled.

Nowadays she’s hard at work, planning creative menus and cooking delicious meals for any occasion – from private events to meal deliveries to special occasion cakes. She also teaches cooking classes, dedicated to her flower pressed cookies, where she passes on her tips and tricks.

But for now, admire her mouthwatering creations from afar.

“Before kids, I made a living as a web designer,” she recently wrote on Instagram. “After kids, I’ve been perfecting the role of ‘exhausted stay-at-home mom’ to a crazy little pack of boys.”

“Parenting is HARD!” she admitted. “But cookie decorating makes for a nice creative outlet. My cookie adventure started a few years ago, but until recently was pretty sporadic (holidays, fundraisers, special occasions). As my kids get older I’m finding more time in my days (and nights) to focus on improving my skills. For those who don’t already know, cookie decorating is a BIG time commitment. It wasn't easy to cope with these chocolate rings. The secret is simple: the decor has to be thin, then the rings won't break and will perfectly fit together, and of course patience. This project was made for the presentation of new chocolate Ruby. The idea was to create a set of elements (cakes) that together would form a single composition. As a result, we got algorithmically modeled cake that consisted of 81 individual cakes, every single was unique in shape. This composition was made using a graphical algorithm editor Grasshopper that can build forms from the simple to the awe-inspiring. Inspyred by Matthew Shlian we took a pyramid and changed the tilt of each object and the area of each top plane, programming and scripting the set of cakes. All of the cakes are different. . Этот проект был сделан специально для презентации нового шоколада Ruby от Cacao Barry в Шанхае. Идея заключалась в том, чтобы создать множество элементов (пирожных), которые вместе будут формировать единую композицию. В итоге мы получили динамический рисунок который состоит из 81 пирожного, каждое из которых уникально по форме. Эта композиция была сделана с использованием специального графического редактора алгоритмов Grasshopper, который может генерировать формы от простых до совершенно впечатляющих. Вдохновляясь работами Matthew Shlian мы взяли пирамиду и изменили наклон каждого объекта и площадь каждой верхней плоскости, программируя набор пирожных. Все они разные по форме. . I don't know why Matthew Shlian decided to make a scandal out of this work. His works were inspiration for me and I honestly wrote about it and added his credits. It's an artistic influence which I gladly admit. I thought he would have been proud to be inspiration to another artist, like any accomplished artist. I saw his works before but I didn't see all his works and it is impossible to see all works all artists all over the world. The pyramids and attractor is nothing new. If you try to study Rhino3D you will find a lot of the same samples there. Also this mould was never made for selling it was just a concept project.

Pentagon cake. This was icosahedron that I transformed into a small cake. It was our the very first mould printed on 3d printer for small individual cake. We did it two years ago and it was just the beginning. Land Rover 70th Anniversary cake. We were discussing the project and how we could get it realized for about a month. Then it took a week to create this project Stages: 1- we made a 3D model on the computer, 2- we prepared drawings for cutting chocolate cars out of chocolate plates, 3- I made plates of tempered chocolate (they were of different color), 4- we cut chocolate cars, 5- we put all the cars together, 6- I made the cake, 7- the last stage – photo shooting (we devoted a lot of time to it). Of course, the most important part is the cake itself. I was working on its recipe individually. I wanted to create a cake that would meet modern trends. It’s a cherry cheesecake with Sakura tea. The crunchy layer is made of caramelized pecans and dried cherries; almond sponge with lemon zest; berry confit ; berry cremeux; the last layer is cheese mousse. This cake doesn’t contain cream and is very low in fat and sugar. . Торт на юбилей компании Land Rover специально для журнала ONELIFE Land Rover @landrover. Мы обсуждали проект и его реализацию около месяца. Затем у меня была всего неделя на его реализацию, поэтому работали практически круглосуточно. Конечно очень важная часть для меня это – рецепт. Я хотела создать торт, который бы соответствовал современным тенденциям, поэтому здесь нет сливок, низкое содержание сахара и жиров. Это вишневый чизкейк с чаем Сакуры. Хрустящий слой изготовлен из карамелизированных орехов пекан и сушенной вишни; миндальная бисквит с лимонной цедрой; ягодное конфи; ягодное кремю; последний слой – сырный мусс. Origami cake for @sogoodmag Inspired by the beauty of lines and patterns of origami folds, I created a few models using 3Ds max and printed them on a 3D printer. The first fold that I tried to make was the Miura-ori fold. And inside is delicious cake, one of my favorites.
