The post Erika Lizée’s Installations Look Like Portals to Another Dimension appeared first on 5dwallpaper.com.
]]>Recently, Lizée did an installation at Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum called “Seed of Life” that perfectly captures the essence of her creative process. It shows a cluster of blue strings being sucked into a vortex that “opened” in the wall. But the work is open to interpretation since it can also be viewed as an unknown entity using the portal to cross into our world.
According to Lizée, the illusion part of her work is important for sparking a sense of wonder in the viewer as well as giving them a feeling of uncertainty.
“I imagine gallery walls as thresholds between different realms or states of existence, between the visible and the invisible, between this physical plane we inhabit and otherworldly planes beyond our awareness,” the artist shares on her website.
Lizée’s other portals have “opened up” in galleries and art centers across the United States, including San Pedro’s Angels’ Gate Cultural Center, Oxnard’s Carnegie Art Museum Studio Galleries, and Lancaster’s Museum of Art and History.

]]>With an emphasis on minimalism and typography, Jadhav’s work serves as a reminder of the endless possibilities found in digital art. Indeed, in an interview with Ballpitmag, Jadhav admitted she’s drawn to this medium because it’s very forgiving.
“It gives me the freedom to experiment constantly,” said Jadhav. Her experimentations include architectural drawings, greeting cards, and a series dedicated to the English alphabet. “I live to create illustrations that are pleasing to the senses.”
Born in India, Jadhav got her Master’s degree in Supinfocom Rubika (a computer graphics university), after which she worked at an indie game studio in the Netherlands, where she’s lived ever since. But according to Jadhav, her cultural background—growing up in Mumbai—is very much present throughout her work.
These days, her work includes editorial illustrations and advertising campaigns, with clients like Microsoft Build, FOUR magazine, and British Petroleum. She also has her own online shop, where she sells postcards and art prints. You can also follow her progress online through Instagram.

]]>The California-born, Montreal-based freelance illustrator describes her images as “childlike” and adds that she is an artist who doesn’t have a favorite medium. For example, last year she was very into watercolor, but lately 3D modeling has been her thing.
“3D illustration is something that I have deeply invested in for the past five months, and I grow more in love with it every day,” she said in an interview for Ballpit. “I love seeing my 2D illustrations take new forms in a 3D world. I think it is much easier to create immersive atmospheres in 3D.”
Perhaps what makes her journey so unique is that she seems to have no problem jumping from one style of art to another. As opposed to sticking with one thing, Mathieson keeps her fans on their toes—and they love it!
If you’re interesting in being one of those fans, her Instagram is where she shares all her arts. She is also currently accepting commissions and is open to collaborations. Scroll down and see our favorites!

The details and imperfections are the most important thing in 3D – they make things look real. For example, fingerprints on mirrors or traces of dirt or dust are confusing the viewer. Is it real or just fake? I like to surprise them, Wow-them, tickle their fantasy and sometimes leave a question mark in their head,” the artist shared in an interview for Ballpit.

]]>Don’t take it from us. An established artist and art director, Tarka’s clients include giants like Apple, Nike, LG, Samsung, Audi, and Google. Which makes the fact that he’s self-taught all the more incredible. “I’m fully self-taught,” he stressed in an interview with Medium, adding that he studied economics and dropped out of school after obtaining his Bachelor’s degree. “I didn’t even think about doing a Master’s degree,” he admits.
“I’m a really horrible drawer,” he went on to say, “so I always start the with 3D. Colors and textures are usually the last step for me and there’s a lot of mixing in that stage. I’ve got a selection of my 30–35 favorite kind of materials and I try to mix them with colors and textures to get the right results.”
His inspiration comes mainly from architecture, which he admits to being drawn to from a very young age. “The super realistic and sci-fi designs that were dominating the 3D scene back then didn’t appeal to me, so I decided to move to a bit more of an illustrative approach,” he says.

]]>“I think the strokes are very important element in order to create a nice lettering piece, also the thickness and kerning are very important,” he told Lettering Daily, explaining his creative process. “Sometimes I have the same mistakes, I usually see different works of great artists to have a better idea of how to do it and that’s how I improve my work!”
Though most of his work these days is digital, there’s a sense of movement and tactility with every digital brushstroke, making his work seemingly pop out of the screen.
According to Milan, the hardest part of his job is actually finding a good quote or a word to transform. “I could spend hours looking for a good one,” he admits. “Since I have the phrase or word I start to make the sketches in different styles, after having chosen the best one I proceed to do it with a marker, brush or directly digital on a tablet. Finally, I place the lettering on a photo or image.”
With more than 130k followers on Instagram to date, people are clearly taking note.

]]>“Creativity was really valued in our household and I always felt the arts were a viable career choice,” he told Lecture in Progress. “I was a late bloomer in school and art was the only thing I really excelled at, so I always felt it was central to my identity and sense of personal worth.”
Now based on the South Coast of England, his artistic career has included leading campaigns for clients such as BBC, Channel 4, Droga5, Disney and Google; and his work has achieved numerous accolades including a Children’s Bafta win and Lovie Award.
“I create children’s content for the most part,” he says. “The bulk of my work is around game design – making landscapes, characters, rigging and animating them and working with an art director and development team to make it all work. I also do linear animation work, or what’s termed, ‘explainer videos’, and sometimes I’m called upon to create sets of short looping gif animations for Facebook sticker sets to promote the release of a film or TV show.”
His animations, quirky, funny, if a bit wonky, have also drawn the attention of more than 26k followers on Instagram. “The most satisfying part of my job is creating something tangible – experimenting with ideas, overcoming technical constraints and ending up with something fun that is seen and used by people.”
