]]>Penovac’s paintings have a captivating simplicity to them. The artist starts with a splash of ink or watercolor and then adds just a few notable features like whiskers, eyes, and ears. By doing so, he encourages viewers to observe the cats in all of their grace without focusing too much on details.
According to Penovac, he wasn’t always a big cat person until his kids brought a small kitten home, and it ended up growing into a beautiful black cat named Bossi. One day, he decided to make a watercolor painting of the cat and has been painting felines ever since.
“The cat’s soft fur, the graceful movements, and the flow of ink complement each other – you could say they are made for each other. It opened up a new world for me,“ Penovac explained in an interview with KatKin.
Penovac’s cat artworks have become quite sought-after in years since, making their way into private art collections all across the world. The artist also sells prints of his paintings while frequently sharing them on social media as well. Check out more of them below.

]]>Relief art is a method of sculpting that sees the artist create pieces that are attached to a solid background, which usually consists of the same material. This gives sculptures a special effect in which they appear to emerge from the background they are attached to.
Behzadi usually creates his relief art on walls. Showcasing his creative process on social media, Behzadi can be seen applying plaster to the wall and creating a basic outline of an angel with spread wings and flowing hair. Then, he proceeds to carve out the final details before sanding the sculpture to give it its final appearance.
While the depiction of angels represents most of Behzadi’s creative output, the artist also creates relief art featuring other designs. This includes motifs from nature like feathers, leaves, and flowers.
Behzadi frequently shares his newest works on his Instagram page while also posting reels that give insight into his creative process. You can check out more of his relief art below.

]]>While most people project shadow images using their hands, Japanese artist Kuronushi uses complex cardboard cutouts. This allows him to project shadow images on the wall with an incredible amount of detail.
Kuronushi frequently opts to create shadow portraits of pop culture characters and celebrities alongside additional scenes that change as he moves the cardboard. The list includes popular soccer stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, actors like Tom Holland, and movie characters like Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow.
As it turns out, making shadow portraits is just a hobby Kuronushi accidentally picked up. He was playing with his daughter when he noticed a shadow of her on the wall. He was fascinated by the projection and decided to start experimenting and making his own shadow images.
While Kuronushi’s works seem to be those of an expert, the artist only recently started with the practice. He posted his first shadow portrait in 2023 but already has a massive social media following, with internet users being amazed by his content. Check out more of his shadow portraits below.

]]>Maynard spent most of his childhood years playing around in the woods around his home in Washington State. He spent countless hours birdwatching and discovered his creative side once he started collecting discarded bird feathers at the age of 12.
“For him, feathers represent flight, transformation, and a bridge between our present lives and our dreams. Since feathers are universal symbols of these qualities, Maynard’s art speaks to many people’s longings as well as people who revere birds,” reads the artist’s official website.
If you’re wondering if any birds were harmed in the process, don’t despair. Maynard is a conservationist at heart, and all of his feathers were obtained in an ethical way, after being naturally shed, so he’s basically upcycling them through his art and giving them a new life.
Maynard mostly uses feathers from turkeys, parrots, peacocks, and crows, from private aviaries and zoos. He exhibited his art around the world, in addition to writing a book called Feathers: Form & Function.

]]>This visual development and concept artist is based in Marseille, France, and his works of art are transporting his 240,000 Instagram followers to new worlds every day. Carmes’ inspiration comes from many different places, and they’re often science fiction-based, while still staying rooted in reality.
Even when he’s taking us to futuristic wastelands and depicting scenes that are straight out of this world, there’s still something incredibly raw and human about his work. He enjoys focusing on lone characters because they help him portray scale and proportion and convey the sense of nostalgia that his illustrations wouldn’t be the same without.
“I visualize the scene, in particular when I’m doing research on the subject, prior to working on the illustration. I want people who look at my work to imagine themselves in the setting. A lot of my inspiration comes from the cinema, from photography, and from other artists,” Carmes told Ariane Group.

]]>Kagoe has a cool series of comics that are inspired by the world of Resident Evil, especially the 2021 video game Resident Evil Village. Her works capture the feel of the game, using its characters and scary atmosphere, but are also humorous and relatable.
Another thing that makes Kagoe’s comics unique is the way she creates them. Unlike most comic artists, Kagoe paints her comics with watercolors and does minimum digital interventions on them. This results in a captivating style that makes each panel a work of art on its own.
According to Kagoe, her passion for comics and video games dates back to her childhood. She used to draw all sorts of comics as a way to amuse herself while also spending a lot of free time playing video games. When she grew up, she decided to bring together those two into her current project.

The theme of mushroom houses isn’t new for Gustafsson. She previously tackled the same subject in a series of small paintings that imagined mushroom houses hiding on the forest floor under thick vegetation and fallen leaves.
“The idea of being immersed under leaves and tucked away in a cozy space is really appealing,” Gustafsson said in a recent chat with Colossal. “At a small size, every little leaf and turn around a log can be a whole new world to explore.”
Gustafsson enjoys looking for different mushroom species that she can turn into a home. She also takes on commission work, allowing other nature enthusiasts to give their favorite mushrooms a house makeover.

]]>Casetify, Hong Kong-based phone case producer, recently decided to do its part in minimizing the waste that comes from plastic cases with a Re/CASETIFY campaign. As part of the campaign, the company challenged various artists to use discarded phone cases in their artworks.
“They Re/CLAIMED what were once discarded phone cases and turned them into earth-friendly, high-quality works of art. Re/CASETiFY’s recycling program has recycled over 430,000 phone cases,” the company explains.
Among the artists that took part in the challenge was designed by Nikolas Bentel, who used discarded phone cases to make a handbag.
Ceramic artist Adam Blythe, on the other hand, made a vase out of 700 phone cases, preventing them from ending in a landfill.
Casetify isn’t stopping here. The company also recycles discarded phone cases to make new ones and intends to eliminate “virgin plastic” from its supply chain by 2030.

Cheung also has a unique creative process. He uses a combination of acrylic paints, inkjet printing methods, and other materials to create his works, which often can have collage-like features.
