Two BFFs With Different Body Types Are Promoting Body Positivity

“Body positivity” is one of those buzzwords that we’re hearing everywhere these days, but many major fashion brands are still struggling to embrace it. Two best friends are trying to change that by sharing viral videos that show them wearing the same clothes and proving they can look good no matter what the size.

Denise Mercedes and Maria Castellanos are the masterminds behind the “Style Not Size” campaign, but how did they come up with this idea? Mercedes was a popular plus-size model and worked with many major fashion brands before deciding to join forces with Castellanos, who helped her shoot photos for her blog.

The two BFFs eventually started taking photos by each other’s side, wearing the same fashion pieces in different sizes. Their main goal was to help other women step out of their comfort zone and encourage them to wear things that they think they shouldn’t wear.

Despite their best efforts, the duo admits it’s not always easy to find clothes for their videos. They believe many major brands aren’t truly body positive, and they’re hoping their videos will help change that.

“It’s actually quite hard to find pieces; Not a lot of brands are size-inclusive. It takes us so much time finding something we like and something that everyone will be able to wear. We look for neutral colors for every skin tone, stretchy materials, and quality,” Castellanos told Vogue.
