Want the rest of the world to know what you are listening to while wearing your headphones? Or maybe you just want them to project your mood or current musical vibe? Then the FUTUREAHEAD headset designed by Olga Orel will be right down your alley.

Orel recently shared details about FUTUREAHEAD on Behance and social media, and it is safe to say that the project has intrigued a lot of people.

Orel’s headphones come equipped with small digital screens that light up when the users put them on and can project all sorts of multimedia content. It can be the artwork of the album you’re listening to, song lyrics, artist’s photos, or simply a slideshow of images that correspond to the music you enjoy.

Of course, the functionality of the headphones also plays a big part, with Orel designing a comfy fit for the ears and an adjustable headband.

“The design takes inspiration from retro headsets, which typically featured a stylish and nostalgic aesthetic,” Orel said about her headphones. “My design task was to combine the retro look with modern technology, and at the same time it was important to emphasize the functionality of the headphones.”

The FUTUREAHEAD headset is currently in the design phase, but we can’t see a reason why such a cool idea wouldn’t become a reality.

In recent years, phone cases have become a big source of plastic waste. People usually get bored with a phone case, throw it away in the garbage, and get a new one. A recent study by National Geographic estimated that more than 7 billion plastic phone cases get discarded in landfills each year.

Casetify, Hong Kong-based phone case producer, recently decided to do its part in minimizing the waste that comes from plastic cases with a Re/CASETIFY campaign. As part of the campaign, the company challenged various artists to use discarded phone cases in their artworks.

“They Re/CLAIMED what were once discarded phone cases and turned them into earth-friendly, high-quality works of art. Re/CASETiFY’s recycling program has recycled over 430,000 phone cases,” the company explains.

Among the artists that took part in the challenge was designed by Nikolas Bentel, who used discarded phone cases to make a handbag.

Ceramic artist Adam Blythe, on the other hand, made a vase out of 700 phone cases, preventing them from ending in a landfill.

Casetify isn’t stopping here. The company also recycles discarded phone cases to make new ones and intends to eliminate “virgin plastic” from its supply chain by 2030.

Check out more of Re/CASETIFY art below.

Porsche, one of the most recognizable car brands in the world, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. As part of the festivities, the carmaker decided to team up with video game giant Xbox to release a collection of custom Xbox Series X consoles.

The limited collection consists of six consoles, with each one being based on a particular car from Porsche’s history. The consoles also come with matching controllers.

The list includes the Porsche 911 GT1 and the Porsche Salzburg, which both won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, the Porsche Hippie, the Porsche Pink Pig, the Porsche Racing Edition, and the Porsche 75th, which is based on the classic 963 model.

“Many people who end up being our most dedicated fans had their first encounter with Porsche through gaming. That’s why it plays a key role for us to stay relevant not just among current fans but among new generations, showcasing in the most awesome and engaging way what our brand has to offer,” said Robert Ader, Vice President of Global Marketing at Porsche AG, in a statement.

Unfortunately, this cool collaboration between Porsche and Xbox won’t be available in retail. Instead, the fans will be able to enter a series of sweepstakes, which will be organized over the next four months, and have a chance to own one of these consoles.

Dog shows are a great place for dog owners to showcase the beauty and skills of their pets. YouTuber Zac Alsop recently decided to enter one with his dog and see how he’ll do. But there was a catch; his dog was actually a robot.

Alsop got himself a Unitree Go1, a bionic quadruped robot that mimics the behavior of a real dog and enlisted famous dog trainer Gina Pink to “train” the mechanical puppy named Roobot. Pink believed that Roobot would have the most chance in the music freestyle dog competition, so Alsop also got dancer and actress Alice Dardenne to help him design the choreography for the show.

While Alsop had high hopes for Roobot, it turned out that the bright lights of a dog show were just too much for him. The robot dog struggled to match the real dogs in one-on-one races and obstacle courses, while just a portion of the audience was impressed with his dance choreography.

“That wasn’t Roobot’s fault. He’s just not real. Perhaps I’m just too focused on the future sometimes to realize what I actually had,” Alsop says at the end of the video before going for a round of fetch with his real dog.

Vinyl records are in the midst of a big comeback. Previously considered obsolete, this audio medium returned to relevance in recent years to the point that vinyl records outsold CDs in 2022 for the first time in decades.

To get a better understanding of the vinyl renaissance, WIRED recently decided to pay a visit to Detroit’s Third Man Records and see how vinyl records are made. The video shared on WIRED’s YouTube channel shows everything that goes into the process, from cutting the music onto a Lacquer and creating a “stamper” to actually making the records.

The viewers can also find out some tricks of the trade and cool bits of info about vinyl records. For example, the manufacturing facility can create records in any color imaginable, but the standard black vinyl record still sounds the best.

“Vinyl is in the real world. It’s not something that exists only on your computer or your phone, it’s three-dimensional. Your nervous system is designed to take in the sound,” explains one of Third Man Records’ engineers.

If you are new to the world of vinyl records or just want to know more about them, make sure to check out WIRED’s video. You’ll find it below.

September has been a great month for tech junkies and Apple diehards. The new iPhone 14 was released, bringing the same slick design we all love but also improvements and new functions compared to the previous model.

Of course, YouTubers got their hands on iPhone 14 even before it was officially released and had been picking it apart. Some did in-depth reviews, others tried to break it in numerous ways possible, while those like Zack Nelson, who runs a successful tech-based channel JerryRigEverything, were intrigued to see what’s under the hood.

Nelson recently got his hands on iPhone 14 and couldn’t resist the urge to see what’s inside. This resulted in a great video that will appeal to every tech enthusiast out there. Nelson tore down the iPhone to its basic components, showing how all parts come together to bring you a great smartphone.

The video also shows how Apple made several significant changes in the way it constructed the new iPhone, making it less complicated to repair compared to previous models. The parts that break easily, like the display and back cover, are easily detachable, and there is no more need to tear down the whole phone just to repair them.

You can check out JerryRigEverything’s teardown of iPhone 14 below.

In 2016, Zach Lieberman unintentionally stumbled into a new form of artmaking: art that is made with code. “My step-daughter was having trouble falling asleep by herself at the time and so I would hang out in her room, read some books and then as she tried to sleep, I’d code a sketch and in the morning show it to her,” he explained in an interview with Medium. And so began his experimentation.

Jump forward sometime later, and his experimentation turned into practice — a hybrid of drawing, animating, and coding. “My main focus is how computation can be used as a medium for poetry,” Lieberman stated on his website.

At first, Lieberman would share on his Instagram his daily sketches in the form of short animations. In these sketches, he tried out different visual ideas involving geometry, animation, gesture, and graphic form. “I had no idea what to expect but it felt like a good new years resolution and a nice way to experiment with some ideas I had been thinking about,” he would later admit.

His sketches are coded in openFrameworks (using Xcode), but a few use paper.js. “I don’t use GitHub, I don’t keep code clean, I just make and record without thinking very carefully about anything,” he says. “I sketch up until the point I think it’s interesting, record it, post it and clock out. It’s the opposite of how I approach commercial work. When I sketch I want to work as messy and mindlessly as possible — I don’t plan, I just see where the wind blows.”

We’re here to follow his interesting progress, wherever it takes him.

Do you remember how gaming used to be in the good old days? It was just you, your console, and your bedroom, which usually involved tons of CD’s stacked on your shelves and a big, hulking TV that you probably couldn’t lift all by yourself even if you wanted.

These days, gaming is different.

With more and more manufacturers favoring the digital route, the days when you had to physically own a game are long gone. But, that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce, right?

Rachid Lotf, a Morocco-based artist, wanted to capture these times, and using his talents, he did quite a good job.

Then again, it’s probably easier to do it if you’re one of those who lived through such times yourself. Because, really, everything from a decade or two ago is there, including but not limited to the AAA games of the time, as well as the accurate and hyper-realistic representation of the gamers of then, regardless of which platform you played on.

His striking and accurate portraits of the typical gaming den a decade ago will send you on a pure nostalgia trip that will have you thinking about simpler times.

Make sure that you scroll down below to see it for yourself.

Back in 2018, Guy Jones published a video on Youtube showing footage filmed by a Swedish film crew from Svenska Biografteatern in 1911 in New York City. Jones restored the video and added sound to it in order to make it more realistic, and two years later, another guy took it to another level.

Video editor Denis Shiryaev worked on the said video adding color to it and boosting its resolution to 4k, so now we can see even better how life in New York in 1911 looked like.

“Restored with neural networks 1911 New York footage taken by the Swedish company Svenska Biografteatern on a trip to America,” he wrote along with the video. See it below and find Jones’ video underneath it.
