“The materials and techniques and execution of the edge has evolved, become more nuanced,” she shared in an interview with Voyage Houston, explaining how her creative process evolved over the years, “but the inherent investigation is still there. The discourse between straight lines and the curve, the tension and teleological emphasis of the forms.”
According to Wagner, her curiosity runs deep. “When I was a kid I was writing and drawing everyday,” she recalles. “I have been digging deep for as long as I can remember. Feeling deeply. When I was young, I drew fantastical birds, born from my imagination. Fast forward to now, my large and small bioforms, while abstract in nature, are born of the same ecological structure and language of flora and fauna.”
Fast forward to adulthood and her installations are now being exhibited extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Notable commissions include a large-scale installation for The Flaming Lips, a large shadow box for GNU a snowboard company out of Portland, OR, a large-scale installation piece for NIKE, presented in the Shrine Auditorium for The KOBE X Blackout Experience, and two installations for Viacom, one of which is a 117 ft piece at their headquarters in Times Square.
“My exterior growth work which I create on the outside of buildings in public spaces is just beginning,” says Wagner.

]]>“The main goal of the work is to use the alchemy of sculpture to take the inanimate and very simple materials of cloth and stuffing and sometimes wood and turn them into something alive with personality,” she further relayed in an interview with Textile Artist. “It’s among the simplest and the most complex ideas an artist works with and I am finding it infinitely interesting.”
With a formal background in painting, DiCioccio started experimenting with fiber in 2005. According to DiCioccio, she began embroidering and sewing with no prior experience outside of doing cross-stitch projects and watching her mom hand-sew Halloween costumes when she was a child.
“My work has taken a bit of a turn in recent years since I started making these more abstract forms, rather than the more literal or representation pieces I’d made for about ten years,” she reflects. “I’ve never really taken a class in sculpture or studied sculpture so when I started I was just making objects. Now I think a lot about what it takes to make a good sculpture and how these object function in space, and that’s been a really big development.”

]]>Hulea’s work is mostly inspired by history and so far he’s created many portraits of prominent historical philosophers, artists, and rulers. Thanks to his exquisite technique and the versatility of the materials he’s using, Hulea’s portraits look more like drawings than sculptures.
The artist said that he loves working with metal wires because the material gives him the freedom to shape his artwork anyway he wants.
“I hope that people will understand that I do nothing but draw in a new way, in a durable material of the past. I can then explore and research, as an artist, mythical, Renaissance, and modern thinking by finding three-dimensional examples that describe us now in a history of the past,” the sculptor stated for the media.

]]>“The advertising industry understands the strength of visual persuasion and I find it fascinating that our desires can be manipulated through aesthetics,” Genesis explained in an interview with It’s Nice That. “I use elements of that persuasive language in my work.”
Genesis knows a thing or two about advertising. Having studied fashion design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago she has built props for advertising campaigns in Manhattan before earning her MFA from Hunter College, where she was accepted into the painting program only to be then drawn to clay.
“Objects are often surrogates for our self-identity,” she added. “The uncanny is the feeling of something being strangely and uncomfortably familiar, this discomfort comes from seeing ones projected self in an object. I am using humour and style to address the complexity, nuance and dissonance of human psychology.”
Her ceramic and porcelain creations were featured in numerous galleries and museums, including the Galerie Perrotin in Seoul and the Galerie Perrotin in New York.

]]>The British-Canadian sculptor blends together humans, animals, and objects making for an uneasy effect. Still, though her pieces are overflowing with characters, “these characters know much more than they let on,” states the artist on her website.
“The inspiration comes from mysticism and esotericism which touches on daydreams and the fantastical elements that haunt our nights,” she adds. “Within the eerie beauty of these ceramic sculptures is an exploration of the intersection between dreams and reality.”
“Stepping into her studio is like discovering an Eighteenth-Century Cabinet of Curiosity,” reads her website. “Her art is a collection of shamanistic characters which imbibe the peculiar, scientific and mythical qualities involved in creation.”

]]>To complete each of his sculptures, Tsuchiya goes through a rigorous process. A template is first created and then fitted on a block of wood. Afterward, he uses a saw to remove the excess wood. After more carvings and sculpting, the piece of wood is then sanded to smooth out the surface. Plaster and paint are then used to finish his pieces.
In an interview with Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Tsuchiya said he envisions his sculptures, “as if something is borrowing the posture of the animals and it’s suddenly appearing” in front of him. “Nobody has ever seen unicorns but I imagine the shape of them by knowing the characteristics of their horns as medicine and that they don’t get attached to, or domesticated by, humans.”

For the model, she uses 3D drawings. Each unique figure is massively modeled, hollowed out, smooth scrap, oxide-treated, annealed, glazed, and raked. Her finished ceramic sculptures have smooth surfaces but with clear expression. She also uses raku – a demanding technique where ceramics are exposed to great temperature shocks.

The decorative items introduced into the UV resin container come in shortly after the resin was poured into the glass container. That is because the resin does not solidify before those decorative items are introduced.
We can also see a turtle which was placed underneath the glass, with the contents in it, which are solidified already. The turtle was made from polymer clay, and the different parts were assembled to form his complete body. After that, the turtle eyes and mouth were then positioned appropriately to their respective locations.
