]]>Denim lovers won’t be able to get enough of Elise McMahon’s chairs that are upholstered with bleached denim from discarded blue jeans. Inspired by all things nature, her colorful designs use recycled materials such as fast-fashion waste and old car parts. “Caring about the earth should just be a part of, I feel like, every designer’s practice,” she told Clever.
This designer’s work is quirky and fun. Algeri creates products that feature bright and bold colors and soft textures made from ceramics, foam, and fiberglass. His inspiration comes from 70s cookbooks and construction books, which he has lying around his studio.
Textile artist Katherine Entis of Soft Century makes rugs, throws, and other textiles that are fine art, but also meant for snuggling up with. Entis mixes traditional weaving techniques with modern designs and is influenced by fine art and the digital art world—her mother is a painter and her father designs video games. ]]>Inspired by the joy of nature she wanted to create a product that hasn’t been seen before, “Nature has paths and things get stuck along the way. I wanted to do the same with wood, to take it and do something to it that’s never been done,” she told The Times of Israel.
She uses raw cypress and eucalyptus and to ensure that the wood is smooth she fills in the gaps and divets. The black boundary between the raw wooden logs and silvery aluminum is created from the burning of the molten aluminum on the surface of the raw wood.
“We focus on material research and development of forms, while drawing inspiration from the process of time and the supposed imperfections found in nature,” Shamia told Colossal. Her collection fuses the wood with cool metal for functional pieces, that make wonderful statements to any room.

]]>“Most people would create a vision board to remind them every single day on goals they wish to achieve. So instead of me creating a board or writing it down in a book, I decided to put it on my wall so everyday I’ll see it,” the artist shared on Bored Panda.
While decorating his walls, Rushin uses fabric paint, which is, as he says “super affordable and very colorful”.
Besides writing down his motivational quotes, he also painted his other wall, transforming it into a big and bright mandala. “I wanted to bring some color into my room, so this idea came to me and I must admit I’m impressed of how colorful it came out,” he added.

]]>A blend of fine art and the utilitarian, her pieces feature minimalist illustrations of plump characters with references from Matisse to Tracey Emin, and a nod to the perspectives inspired by Kazimir Malevich. With women being her primary source of inspiration – her forever muse – it makes sense that most of these plump characters are female.
“I love women. We’re the best,” she joked in an interview with vitruvi. Indeed, her subjects and themes acknowledge the deep-seeded history of women-made textiles and the gender power dynamics that have progressed through craft history.
But she admits that most of her clients feel bad for stepping on her textile art. “Having people come over when I first started making them, they were everywhere and I’d be like, ‘Get on the ground. Roll!’ That was my first thought for interaction: force people to get down in there,” she recalled. “And they were like, ‘What do I do? Do I step on it?’ They were walking around, taking off their shoes, pacing the border of it.”
In the world of instant gratification, Mior slows down and creates work that invites comfort while examining the female imprint within craft and art.
