Sara Thielker describes herself as a devoted creative, always keen to work on new projects. Born and raised in Oxford, the UK, in what she describes as a very creative and free-thinking household that nurtured and cherished the artist in her, she now works from her cozy home studio in Wiltshire.
“My entire family was massively important in inspiring my love for art from an early age,” she told Inky Goodness. “An art foundation, a degree in illustration from UWE (Bristol), and over five years in a lovely design studio in Bath have helped guide me to where I am today.”
Working as a freelance illustrator she enjoys illustrating both commercial and editorial pieces, while also attending to her more personal projects. “My illustrations are an extension of myself and of my love for the earth,” she writes on her website. “I practice green living as much as I possibly can, therefore, always print on recycled or sustainable paper and do not use plastic packaging for any of my products.”
When sitting down to work she uses mechanical pencils for ideas and sketching, and a selection of black fine liner pens for her final illustrations. “There is an incredibly satisfying beauty to a precise crisp black line on blank matte white paper,” she says. “I always have a sketchbook with pages that tear out easily because I prefer to sketch on a loose sheet; then I can slip it back into the book. My scanner, laptop and tablet are essential tools for me also because the majority of my work is completed digitally.”
And when she’s not illustrating you can find her outside exploring with her family or in her kitchen creating vegan meals or treats. We’ve assembled some of our favorite pieces by her in the gallery below:
