Multi-Cultural Artist Creates Vibrant Illustrations of Arab Women

Vibrant is the first word that comes to mind when looking at Roeqiya Fris’ illustrations. Focusing on Arab culture, fashion, and nature, the Dutch-Egyptian illustrator creates colorful illustrations that are full of lively characters.

Her detailed settings, full of color and flair, portray mostly Arab women. “Women are inspiring for me, maybe because I grew up with three sisters,” said the artist in a chat with Berlin & Coconuts Blog. “Most of the women I paint are inspired by my sisters.”

Talking about her background, she explained: “I grew up in the Netherlands, but when I was a child I went a few times to Cairo with my parents, that was wonderful. My mother is from Egypt and my father from the Netherlands.”

Her multicultural background is indeed present throughout her work, making her illustrations something of a unique blend. Check out some of our favorite creations of hers in the gallery below.
