Kate Bingaman-Burt’s Illustrations Are PACKED!

Kate Bingaman-Burt daily life is full to the brim, being an illustrator, an Associate Professor of Graphic Design at Portland State University, an Outlet owner hosting workshops and pop-up events, and owning a risograph print studio; as well as sitting on the board of Design Portland.

But if her days are full, her illustrations are even fuller. Packed, is more like it. “The building blocks of my practice include: bright colors, hand lettering, inventories of illustrated objects, and input and interaction from the communities of awesome people who contribute to my crowd-sourced projects,” she writes on her website.

Drawing, lettering, documenting, and collecting, Bingaman-Burt explains that illustration is at the core of what she does, but that her projects take on many forms including publications, prints, textiles, patterns, installations, murals, and ongoing photo documentation and crowd-sourced illustration projects. She’s also written a few books and made a ton of zines.

“My roles as commercial illustrator, full-time educator, and project-based artist overlap to inform an intricate creative workflow,” she writes. Take a look at some of her illustrations in the gallery below:
