Danielle Kroll’s creativity knows no bounds. An illustrator first and foremost, her work can be found on anything from stationery to textiles and ceramics; and she has even hand-painted Kate Spade bags and wallets.
Like most creatives, Kroll traces back her love for arts and crafts to her childhood. “I started painting in the 5th grade when I won private acrylic lessons with a local artist,” she recalled in an interview with Red Cap Cards. Having grown up, she attended college at Tyler School of Art, with her first job being in Anthropologie’s Art Department where she designed branding collateral and created illustrations for marketing campaigns.
But her love for illustration kept nagging, and she soon found herself bored with her graphic design job. And so, she switched gears and began a freelance career in illustration. Now with more than 40k followers on Instagram, she seems to be doing pretty well.
“I get a ton of ideas when I’m not sitting around trying to think of one,” Kroll shared in the interview. “Generally I get inspiration from everyday life and I definitely look at the past stylistically. I love going to thrift shops and antique malls. You’re guaranteed to see something interesting, unique, handmade, quirky, funny, beautiful and affordable if you go to the right spot. Not to mention the funny people watching.”
