Cartoonist Illustrates Her Journey Dealing With Mental Illness

Mardou is a UK-born artist who has been creating comics half of her life. The cartoonist, now living and working in St Louis, Missouri, has been sharing short comics about her journey dealing with mental illness.

“It’s taken a while to get comfortable with sharing personal stories, but the response has been positive and accepting and my readership has been steadily growing,” the artist shared on Bored Panda. “I’d love to share this work with others who are struggling with difficult emotions or family histories. My message is that there is hope!”

Mardou has also published two graphic novels, and whilst she is sharing a new strip every week, she is currently working on another graphic novel, as well.

“My third graphic novel Strange Kind of Love (coming in late 2021) is a trippy, generation-hopping love story, influenced by A.S. Byatt’s Possession and the worldviews of errant, shamanically influenced modern scientists and anthropologists such as Rupert Sheldrake and Jeremy Narby.”
