These Origami Cranes are Totaly Man Made (We Promise!)

Paper cranes are still popular with kids, and anyone who can make them is automatically considered paper-savvy. But this artist crafts origami paper cranes that are next level. They look so good you’ll think they are machine made.

Cristian Mariancuic is a paper artist, creating new paper cranes every single day. His decision to stick through it was made four years ago and has been successful so far.

The designs include layers of different colored paper, which detailed cuts look like feathers, and with gilded elements added on the wings.

Marianciuc allows the cranes to develop over a few days. But Introducing more intricate folds proves to be an everyday challenge. The artist uses his Instagram page to showcase his work.

“pasăre măiastră” crane Song of the day: And tragic by ViVii @vivii.official The moment I saw @IrisVanHerpen’s most recent collection, I knew that I had to recreate at least one of her masterpieces as a winged crane. The soft ombré effect and the overlapping panels give the red dress such a poetic aura. And the fact that the panels “bloom” out of a bird shape only makes me love this piece even more. Lots of work went into making this crane! I used a Japanese calligraphy pen to outline in black each single feather of each wing. And I love the extra layer of contrast that creates! I started using my glasses when I work now. Which does not really come as a surprise. I am guilty of overworking my eyes! And my hands. But I adore what I do! I will treat myself to a more relaxed day today. I will only be working on two commissions, hahaha! ‘Featherlight’ crane Song of the day: i’m so tired… by Lauv @lauvsongs + Troye Sivan @troyesivan Some birds have heavier loads to carry. Others are luminous flight companions. ‘Rarae Aves’ 1 Song of the day: Zaouiat Ahansal by Pablo Nouvelle @pablonouvelle Although I am more drawn to monochromatic pieces, I do enjoy creating bright, colourful ones too. That’s why I decided to start 2019 with a colour explosion, so to speak. I have created 3 cranes, and I used watercolours to give them joyful and vibrant personalities. I find watercolours to be fascinating, and I always have the most rewarding time when I decide to sit down and use them either for one of my cranes, or just to put down my thoughts using pigments and water. “fashion 3” crane Song of the day: Wind up space by 1010 Benja SL @1010benjasl Closing this mini-collection, we have the Neil Barrett @neilbarrett crane. I just love the colour combinations! I decided to use just matt papers, I believe they give the bird a bit of a more ‘serious’ air. Anyway, I opened my window to get some fresh air and the smell of wood smoke is wafting in slowly. Such a pleasant smell, and so charged with memories! The family is slowly getting together (sort of) and it is starting to feel like Christmas. I say ‘sort of’ because this year, we’ll be spread across 3 continents. The Marianciucs will be enjoying a Malawian, an Australian and a Romanian Christmas. “kogarashi 3” crane Song of the day: Underneath it by Ásgeir @asgeirmusic Another cold, cold day, but it’s so warm and cozy in my room! I managed to tidy up my desk and there is SO much space now, haha! Here is bird #3 of the ‘kogarashi’ (木枯らし) mini-collection. I am currently typing and also looking at the birds together, to my right. There are 11 cranes sitting around me, some old, some plain, some waiting for their extra pairs of wings. I love this little paper universe I created for myself. It’s not big at all, just perfect for one. It is slowly starting to feel like Christmas back here. I am preparing myself for a few days filled with citrus aroma, delicious food, too many people around me and many, wonderful memories linked to this beautiful event. “kogarashi 2” crane Song of the day: Surrender by Basecamp @basecampmusique Allow me to introduce to you bird #2 of the ‘kogarashi’ (木枯らし) mini-collection. As I mentioned before, I used the same gorgeous Awagami paper to fold the crane and to create the wings, and then I added my “fingerprint” with a selection of acrylic paints. It has been snowing steadily since this morning back here and things are starting to get covered in snow again. Everything is so bright and crisp and clean! I wanted to say hello to all the new followers, welcome! “Olympus III” Song of the day: Death in reverse by John Mark McMillan @johnmarkmcmillan Posting this last photo from the series feels quite melancholic. But it’s almost like some sort of closure. And if there is something that I lack in my life is a healthy amount of closure, haha! I started tidying up my room today, but I gave up half-way through. So now I have a pile of stuff in the middle of the room, waiting to be relocated/put back/thrown away. It’s terribly cold outside, and I just came back from a walk.
