Sarah Walsh Found Her Dream Job: Illustrating Animals

Sarah Walsh describes her illustrations as “quirky, happy and thoughtful.” Made with either pencil or pen, gouache, cut paper, and – last but not least – photoshop, her artworks are indeed that and more.

Currently living in Kansas City, she shares a space with her fellow illustrator husband Colin Walsh, their son, a scrappy pup, and a chubby cat. “I like a lot of color and fun things around me — fave books, artwork, toys, my happy stuff, etc,” she shared with Jama’s Alphabet Soup. “A big paper mache unicorn head is on the wall, drawings my daughter did when she was little.”

As a small girl, Walsh was obsessed with animals, as well as drawing. And years later, she found the perfect way to combine both passions – by drawing animals. After receiving her BFA in graphic design from St. Rose in Albany, NY she went on to become the house designer and illustrator of none other than Hallmark Cards, and later decided to branch off on her own and joined the Lilla Rogers agency.

Her happy-go-lucky style has adorned anything from coloring books and toys to home decor, apparel, and greeting cards. Amongst her many collaborations are publications like Penguin Random House, Chronicle Books, and The Guardian.
