]]>Christine’s floral paintings attracted over 100,000 people to her TikTok and around 50,000 more to her Instagram page, but painting wasn’t always her biggest passion. She initially started her creative journey with completely different materials – buttercream and sugar paste.
“Five years ago I made my sister’s wedding cake. It was weeks’ worth of work designing and planning and it was gobbled up in about 45 minutes. I wanted to create on a canvas something that kept the look and feel of cake,” she explains on her official website.
After deciding to focus on the floral art that lasts, Christine quickly realized it takes much more effort to work with acrylic paint than with buttercream and fondant, but that didn’t stop her from giving it a shot.
Her thick-painted florals became a huge sensation thanks to their detailed, textured look, and she even offers workshops on her website for everyone who wants to learn the secrets of her craft, even if they have no painting or piping experience.

“I now feel that I can not only be more connected with myself but also be closer to the environment that inspires me and to the people I love, my family,” she explains.
Barragao mostly uses recycled yarns in an effort to send an ecological message and highlight the negative effect human activity has on the environment. Her works have been displayed in art galleries across the world, including Portugal, France, the United States, and the UK. The artist also frequently shares them on social media. “I really wanted to do something creative so I decided to play around with air-drying clay in my drawer. I am a crazy collector of houseplants and I tried to make my dream mini home full of them,” she told Mirror.

“I grew up watching Disney and more recently Studio Ghibli and reading picture books like Beatrix Potter stories,” shared McKellar in an interview with Pikaland
She then explained that these cultural references influence her chosen subjects and themes. These themes include “anthropomorphism (animals adopting human characteristics), humans with animal features and human interacting with animals.”
“I am very interested in the relationship and I very strongly believe animals should be given a voice,” she adds. “This is the reason I express these concepts in my work. It does make me smile looking at an illustration of a hare wearing a cable knit jumper or a gorgeous girl with a birds nest for hair!”
While most of her work requires a more functional approach (projects that include art direction, print, packaging, branding, and lettering), McKellar allows herself some room for experimentation with her personal projects. These projects might incorporate other mediums like embroidery, watercolors, and collage work.

She opted for the name Traigh Alba because it means “Scotland beach” in Gaelic, and it perfectly reflects her body of work, composed of objects she personally collected from the shores of Scotland.
“It’s the beautiful wildness and endless variety of the Scottish coastline that inspires my collection of artworks… My pictures authentically reflect the special place they come from, mirroring the biology and geology of Scottish beaches,” the artist writes on her Etsy page.
Traigh Alba’s artwork is usually labeled with a specific beach, island, or area, and she’s hoping she’ll help other people connect to these places by capturing some of their beauty.
