Layla Alter Will Teach You How to Wear Your Glass Charms

Layla Alter’s jewelry collection will, without doubt, add a whimsical twist to your outfit. Launched in 2018, in her native city, New York, her brand, Alterita, has caught the attention of publications like Vogue, Teen Vogue, and Refinery29.

A child at heart, Alter’s collections feature beachy designs and fresh feminine themes – things like glass charms, cherry earrings, and heart-shaped necklaces. It’s kitsch, but the playful kind of kitsch you’d want to sport.

She began collecting her charms in 2018 from Mexico and Southeast Asia and has made a series of one-of-a-kind pieces, which resulted in an exclusive collection withΒ Opening Ceremony. Now, Alterita’s newest collection features glass charmsΒ handmade locally by artist Mariko Makino at Brooklyn Glass studio.

β€œI’m very childish at heart,” admitted Alter in an interview with Teen Vogue. β€œI’m very connected to my younger self.” And talking about her latest collection she added: β€œI was like, β€˜What would I want to wear on the beach?’ I want to be wearing lemons. I want a headband.” It’s that kind of playful attitude which got her to where she is today.
