Carlos Gromo is Creating Disney Illustrations Inspired by Classical Paintings

Something extraordinary happens whenever classical and modern art come together, and Carlos Gromo’s illustrations exemplify this perfectly. He specializes in making illustrations inspired by classical paintings, often featuring our favorite Disney characters.

Gromo enjoyed drawing from a young age and making art made him feel more comfortable and confident in his everyday life. Studying fine arts was the easiest decision he’s ever made, but he also has a background as a graphic designer—both of which came in handy once he started crafting his Disney illustrations.

When he first embarked on this journey, his main objective was to put less-known works of art on the map. As a student of the history of art, he wanted to shine a light on some paintings that are truly amazing but most people don’t know about because they’re not studied in schools.

“I think the most complicated thing about creating these illustrations is to be able to keep surprising every day. When you have already made so many illustrations, thinking about the next one always becomes a challenge, you always have to try to improve,” Gromo told Bored Panda.

One of the best things about his paintings is the incredible attention to detail, and it sometimes takes several months to finish them. In addition to sharing Disney illustrations based on classical paintings, he’s often inspired by celebrities and pop culture.
