“Action Nan” Goes Viral for Cleaning 52 Beaches in a Year

When people say that they were moved by a documentary, very rarely do they mean that they were literally inspired to do something drastic about it. But, that’s exactly what happened to one 70-year-old grandmother after watching a documentary on plastic pollution.

Pat Smith, who was nicknamed by BBC Three as “Action Nan” as part of their “Amazing Humans” segment, spent 2018 picking up plastic from 52 beaches in the south coast of United Kingdom.

Since going viral for her beach cleanup, Smith has jumped on to work on other environmental projects.

Now, if only the rest of the world could be more like “Action Nan.”
