4 Latinx Fashion Designers You Should Start Following Today

Some of the best designers, including Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera, are from Latin America but the area has yet to be recognized as a fashion hotspot. With the rise in social media, more Latinx designers are becoming known in the fashion world and these are the ones you should start following on Instagram asap.

Elena Velez

Elena Velez was named one of Teen Vogue’s Generation Next fashion designers and after graduating from Parsons School of Design just last year, she’s already dressed Charlie XCX and Kali Uchis. The inspiration for her structural designs that reinterpret femininity comes from her mother’s job as a ship captain and creating garments with repurposed boat covers, ship steel, and line.

Her Instagram page is dark and has images of her both designs and the process.

Iván Ávalos

This designer has dressed Mexican stars Paulina Goto, Danna Paola, and Barbara Islas. His voluminous dresses featuring tulle and ruffles are whimsical enough to been worn by Disney princesses. In addition to amazing dresses, he creates pantsuits and knitwear that are sophisticated and timeless.

Raul Lopez

His collection LUAR debuted in 2018 and since then his androgynous garments have been worn by Solange and Rihanna. His designs experiment with texture and they’re usually in neutral colors.

Bárbara Sánchez-Kane

Influenced by the gender stereotypes embedded with Latin culture, Sánchez-Kane flips them which results in men wearing satin, girly colors, and flowers. She does all this by paying homage to her Mexican roots.
