This Artist Transforms Movie Icons into Realistic Cartoons

Live caricature artist Xi Ding lives and works in Vienna, Austria. He’s specialized in creating characters and caricatures, so its little wonder his interpretations of famous movie characters went viral in no time.

“His unique style of caricature has developed from over ten years of experience studying classical portraiture, traditional European caricature and American cartoon,” his website reads. “In less than three minutes he has the ability to capture the prominent features and personality of his subject in a humorous and appealing way.”

Layer for layer breakdown! I used Procreate on an iPad Pro to paint this. I placed all the lighting layers separately above the base color and the lines. The lighting layers are painted transparently. The line work and the background color appearing here on the images are just visual aids for you to see where I place the shadings exactly. The 7th image in the roll is composed of all lighting layers without the base color layer.
