]]>Before turning to carpet making, Dalt was planning to get a job at a college. His plans fell through after the pandemic hit, and he started making pop culture-themed carpets while looking for something creative to do during the lockdown.
“Covid hit so I had no job and nothing to do, really, since everyone had to stay inside. So, my ADHD brain had to come up with something, and that’s when I found rug making. It started as a hobby and turned into a small business,” he told Bored Panda.
Lockdowns are long behind us, but Dalt’s carpets are still going strong. He has over 200,000 followers on both TikTok and Instagram, but what’s the secret of his success?
The reason why his carpets became a viral sensation was his decision to mostly focus on popular culture. They usually feature cartoon characters from beloved anime such as Pokémon, Dragon Ball Z, and Naruto, and that’s the main reason why they’re so popular.

“Initially, I wanted to make them stylized as dinosaur fossils set up in a museum environment, but later decided against it, as the skulls didn’t look very recognizable on their own—especially with parts broken or missing. That’s why I opted for (a) less damaged look and also added some assets to each of the characters,” Hodas told This is Colossal.

Sharf got his B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Being surrounded by academic artists doesn’t necessarily make you an elitist, but it calls for more introspection.
Sharf’s work has inspired generations of street artists. The smiley-like faces he spray-paints on walls or on canvases have become a recognizable feature in pop art today, as have his colorful, cartoonish depictions of the natural world.
