]]>Karanikolaou loved dogs for as love as she can remember, and her fondness for these beautiful creatures can only be matched by her passion for fiber art. After discovering her passion for textiles and fibers, she explored many techniques and went on to become a needle felting expert.
Like many fiber artists, Karanikolaou is no stranger to working with wool, but her creations wouldn’t be so unique if she stopped there. She became a true sensation after coming up with the idea to experiment with hairs shed by her pups and make them an essential part of her work.
After realizing it’s possible to make pet portraits using dog hair, sometimes in combination with wool, she started using her skills to create pet portraits for her loyal customers. The resemblance is truly uncanny, and dozens of people used her unique portraits to immortalize their pets, even after they’re long gone.

]]>What sets Lamb apart from countless other artists out there who enjoy celebrating the animal world through their work? Pets in her portraits have a human quality to them—largely thanks to the vintage Victorian clothing they’re wearing in each of Lamb’s creations.
If you’re wondering why she decided to “dress them up” this way, it turns out it all started with her own cat Athena. This was the first embroidery pet portrait to come out of Lamb’s little workshop, and since her kitty reminded her of an old lady, she decided it would look adorable if she wore a tiny hat and purple outfit, paired with some forget-me-nots.
This portrait was such a huge hit that she decided to receive commissions, creating similar embroidery art for her followers. After receiving a photo of a pet, she comes up with a costume herself, mostly drawing inspiration from the interesting stories that the owner shared about their beloved furry companion.

The artist is now lucky to say that she’s painted more than 150 pet paintings so far and all of her customers are more than happy with her work.
“I’ve been painting pets almost exclusively for a few years now, and one of my favorite things to see is the final painting side by side with its subject. Since I work from photographs, I rarely get to meet the pet that I’m painting, but seeing them with their portrait is definitely the next best thing,” Cech shared with Bored Panda.
