]]>Originally from Norfolk, Oakley graduated from Camberwell College of Arts with a degree in Fine Art & Graphic design. “It was a multidisciplinary degree,” he relayed in an interview with The Make Bank, “and I was able to study many aspects of art and design including type-setting & letterpress, typography, silkscreen printing, video art, bookmaking, conceptual art, painting, illustration & graphic design.”
“At school and college I was very fortunate to have supportive teachers and family who saw I was very genuine in my interest in art & design,” he notes. “I think without this support it would have been much harder for me to thrive in a subject I enjoyed so much and still continue to enjoy today.”
With creativity oozing from him, his work is informed by his thoughts and daydreams. But Oakley also acknowledges the importance of hard work. “Its so important to making and keep making, draw and keep drawing,” he stresses.
For illustration projects, he usually works with pen and computer. But his more personal projects can include anything from paper and cardboard, to wood, paint, ink, hammer, nails, and glue. “It’s fun to play with random materials and it’s important for me to keep moving forward, looking for the melody and harmony in my work.”

]]>Made after his favorite birds, each piece took him a couple of hours to make. “I am obsessed with animals, but especially birds and have been since I was a young lad,” Cook shared with Ohh Deer. “I’m always making stuff or trying to think of new mediums for art projects and I had played around with balloons in the past after seeing guys make some incredible stuff at the magic society I used to be a member of. I wanted to make a new project about birds, and for whatever reason, balloons just came to mind.”
Using Qualatex balloons made from natural latex, he assures his followers his materials are biodegradable and break down as quickly as an Oak Leaf. “I still have all the deflated balloons used from the different projects, and intend on keeping them until I can think of something cool to do with them,” says the eco-conscious crafter.
Other projects of his require more traditional materials such as watercolors, acrylics, inks, and robotics. Take a look at his creations (balloon made or otherwise) in the gallery below:

]]>She has made an Elizabethan princess costume out of coffee filters, a parking garage for kids made entirely of toilet paper and paper towel tubes and cardboard boxes, and even her own wedding flowers made from crepe paper.
A lifelong crafter, Levine recalls sneaking paper doilies off the dinner table and hoarding tissue boxes as a young girl. “When I look back at my childhood I realize that my path in the craft and lifestyle world was pretty much set from the start,” she told Mom Filter. “I loved making things and was always hoarding cardboard and other materials for crafts, planning parties and decorating for holidays. I pored over every women’s or lifestyle magazine that my mom bought and made a series of tiny, strange fashion and food magazines.”
“I’m not sure that becoming a parent shaped my choice of work,” she added. “I always loved creating crafts for kids and pushed for doing the kids magazine at Martha Stewart way before I had kids. I do, however, think that the ideas that I came up with after becoming a parent, whether for kid’s crafts, birthday parties or recipes, were much much simpler!”
