The post Antоn Gudim’s “Yes, But” Illustrations are Hilariously Exploring the Duality of Life appeared first on 5dwallpaper.com.
]]>Gudim is a Russian artist and illustrator who attracted almost two million followers across two Instagram accounts with his two-panel comics. He’s the master of dark humor, and his illustrations portray modern society in all of its absurdity.
Gudim enjoyed drawing from a young age, but he didn’t pursue art academically. Following graduation, he started working as an engineer, but something wasn’t clicking even after he changed a few jobs, so he decided to return to drawing.
Artists often deal with a creative block, but Gudim is yet to run into this problem. He doesn’t struggle finding inspiration for his work, and he’s seeing things he could draw on every turn.
“I am not doing anything on purpose. I am not out for a ‘safari’ with a camera on people to see them in their habitat… As soon as I started the ‘Yes, But’ project, I began to notice examples of this format literally everywhere. So I just live and take notes,” he told Bored Panda.

]]>As you can see, Hagen-Brenner creates vivid, colorful, and elaborate digital drawings. There’s a lot to unpack with the work she does, but the first thing we’ll note is her strong attention to detail. This demonstrates a true love for her work, which is something we can all certainly appreciate.
However, there’s another aspect to Hagen-Brenner’s creations that’s perhaps even more important: the message behind it all. You never get the feeling like her art was simply done “just because”. Each one of her creations seems to be sending some sort of message to the viewer, from an appreciation of the four seasons to a reimagining of a seaside town.

]]>“This job has infinite potential,” he remarked once in an interview with Lecture in Progress, describing the most and least enjoyable aspects of his job. “A client can contact you at any time, from anywhere in the world – this unpredictability is always exciting,” he notes. “When you do get a job, the sketch phase – looking for the idea and getting the right concept – is a lot of fun, even though you always have the fear of not solving it.”
On the other end, one of the least enjoyable aspects of being an illustrator for hire, according to Choksi, is when you are given the idea to illustrate. “This means the client has taken away your voice and you’re left with just your style,” he explains. “That can feel a bit superficial.”
Luckily, his award winning work means that he is mostly given a free hand to do as he pleases. “Over the years, I have learnt that to stay relevant you must stay interested in your own work,” Choksi observes. “For ten years, I had a successful career working on the computer, producing vector illustrations, but I wanted to go back to the work I produced in college, with brush and ink. I worried I would lose all my clients, but despite these concerns I had to make that change as this is where my interest lay. I lost clients in advertising, but gained many others.”
You’d want to join in the hype.

]]>Based in Canada with his wife Marinda and cat Louis, Heshka’s love for creating was fueled by the long prairie winters in Winnipeg. To entertain himself, he would spend most of his childhood drawing, building cardboard cities, and making super 8 films.
As he grew up, he trained in interior design, but with a passion for illustration he found himself looking for a different creative route. “I have always drawn and created, and when I left interior design, I got the illustration bug,” he told Flaunt. “However, it took me about seven years to get my foot in the door.” In the interim, he worked in animation doing character clean up and layouts. Today, he says, his interior design experience still plays a big role in his art in terms of special awareness and color usage.
With features in publications like Vanity Fair, Wall Street Journal, Esquire, and the New York Times, he’s clearly doing something right! Follow his original work on Instagram:

]]>The South African illustrator had only started drawing about a year and a half ago. The 32-year-old artist started with drawing as a hobby and says that he still has much to learn. Still, he has already caught the attention of Instagram users. He also has his own method of posting cartoons – if it makes him laugh and isn’t poorly drawn, it’s ready to see the light of the day!
Scribbly G describes himself as a pretty silent dude, which is perhaps why he likes watching silent movies so much. Even though he’s still improving his drawing skills, his comics made over 15 thousand people laugh every day. Quite an achievement for any illustrator.
