Scary Video Shows How Big Asteroids Really Are

The size of things found in space can make us feel really small and insignificant, but when we think about the huge objects that are floating around, asteroids seem really small in comparison. Did you know that they can get really huge, though? The smaller ones have a diameter of around 4 meters, while the biggest ones measure up to 1,000 kilometers (620 miles)!

Luckily, they don’t strike Earth often. The ones with a 1km diameter may hit our planet once every 500,000 years, according to Wikipedia, and the bigger ones even more sporadically. However, experts including Stephen Hawking agree that asteroids are the Earth’s biggest threats.
