Laci Jordan’s graphic illustrations are bold, vibrant, and unapologetic – correlating perfectly with Jordan, who considers herself a renaissance woman. After receiving two altogether completely different Bachelors from the University of Alabama – the first in Criminal Justice, the second in Design – she went on to pursue her creative passion.
Nowadays she’s hard at work, doing anything from graphic design, illustration, and photography to web design, marketing, and curation. The content she creates is uncensored, pushed forward by the lack of visibility of black creatives – especially black women. “I’m making the stuff you don’t see by the person you usually don’t see,” she writes on her website.
“I’m inspired by a few things, the first is black culture,” she relayed in an interview with Forbes. “I love this feeling of a Black Renaissance that’s happening. We’re seeing people of color winning and creating new and exciting stories. I want to see art that includes people that look like me, so I create it. The second thing I’m inspired by is authenticity and the idea of living unapologetically. I create work that is through an unfiltered lens. I want to live in a space where I’m 100% me so I create work that fuels that.”
Color plays a huge part in her creations, which she says is great at telling a story and evoking emotions. “The hardest part is putting yourself out there and staying consistent,” she says. “If you’re working people will notice and different platforms can push your work to many directions. You never know who is watching.”
