]]>In order to create the collection, Studio Ghibli teamed up with crafts-focused retailer Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten. The items from the collection were sourced from various artisans across Japan and will be made available in Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten stores. This includes treasure boxes, handkerchiefs, plates, T-shirts, dish towels, and more.
However, the highlight of the collection has to be handmade Totoro figurines. They are crafted from a piece of the camphor tree, the same kind of tree that Totoro calls his home in the movie. Each Totoro figurine was made by Tomoru Studio’s mast craftsman Takaaki Tanaka, who used the old Japanese technique Inami chokoku.
The Totoro handmade figurines come with a hefty price tag of $2,449. However, even if you are willing to spend this kind of money, there is no guarantee that you can own one. The figurines come as a limited edition item and will be sold via a lottery organized on Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten’s online shop.
