To say Chris Nikic’s childhood wasn’t easy would be an understatement. He was only a baby when he had open-heart surgery and he couldn’t walk until he turned four or eat solid food until the age of five. However, recently, at the age of 21, he became the first person with Down’s Syndrome to complete an Ironman triathlon.

Born and raised in Florida, Nikic had 17 hours to complete a race consisting of swimming, cycling, and running, which he finished in 16 hours 46 minutes and 9 seconds, earning recognition from the Guinness World Records.

The young American amateur triathlete is currently training for the upcoming 2022 Special Olympic Games. According to his website, he started his sports career back in 2017 by doing a single pushup and improved his skills by 1% each day.

“’I have to work hard and give my best every day. If I do an Ironman and become a pro-speaker I will have a chance to get my dream,” he shared.
